Freedom in July

This month here at AGAPE Renaissance Spiritual Center, we will be
emphasizing the importance of FREEDOM ~ – Freedom to BE – To be
whatever we decide to be. Each of us can be our own stumbling block or
the platform that we use to propel ourselves to great heights. We can put
ourselves in a prison of our own making or we can use the power of our
thoughts to allow ourselves to soar. but that does not prevent us from being
all that we want to be. Webster Dictionary defines FREEDOM as the
power or right to act, speak or think as one wants without hindrances or
restraint. I am reminded of the biblical story of Shadrach, Meshach and
Abednego who were imprisoned but held on to their principles, exercised
their freedom to act, by refusing to bow down to a golden statue. We can
do the same. No matter what comes before us we should realize that we
have the freedom to be what we choose to be and that our thinking makes it
so. If we don’t feel free, we must free our thinking. That’s what determines
freedom for us.

We all have read the story of or heard about Viktor Frankl who was taken to Auschwitz, the concentration camp. And how, against all odds, he survived. He said, “He who has a why for
life can put up with any how. Even in the degradation and abject misery of a concentration camp, Frankl was able to exercise the most important freedom of all – the freedom to determine one’s own attitude and spiritual well-being. No sadistic Nazi SS guard was able to take that away from him
or control the inner-life of Frankl’s soul. Trusting that none of us finds ourselves in any situation even close to what Frankl experienced; can we exercise the God-given freedom to determine our own attitude and spiritual well being – our very lives?
